Transition metals
Transition metals are found between group2 and group3 of the periodic table. They are hard shiny metals with high melting points and densities.
Specific properties of transition metals include
Variable oxidation states for example iron can exist as both Fe2+ and Fe3+ .
Form coloured compounds, copper compounds for example are blue, Iron (II) compounds are green and Iron (III) compounds are yellow.
Used as catalysts for various reactions for example iron is used as a catalyst in industrial production of ammonia by Haber’s process.
